About Us
Kings Mountain Preserve is a 36-acre conservation burial ground located 20 minutes from historic Kings Mountain State Park. As the area's only green cemetery, the Preserve boasts majestic hardwoods, dogwoods, and Kings Creek which runs throughout the property. We are privileged to be partnered with Upstate Forever Land Trust which protects our beautiful land and water by enforcing a Perpetual Conservation Easement, ensuring its use for future generations to enjoy.
As a conservation burial ground, we are also proud to be certified with the Green Burial Council and adhere to the strictest regulations of all "green cemeteries". Among those regulations are the following:
The beauty and majesty of the Kings Mountain Preserve cannot be overstated. It transcends what is offered through traditional cemeteries by offering a final resting place amongst the trees, wildflowers, ferns, and meadows of Kings Mountain Preserve. Access to these areas is provided with approximately 3 miles of scenic hiking trails. Native stones which can be engraved mark the graves.
We provide the following accommodations for our groups and families:

- We provide our families the opportunity to participate in the burial and ritual process in keeping with state law and these standards.
- Accept for burial only decedents who have not been embalmed or those who have been embalmed with GBC approved, non-toxic chemicals.
- Use of a vault is prohibited.
- All burial containers, shrouds, or other associated products shall be made of 100% biodegradable materials.

The PavilionOur beautiful Pavilion overlooks the Preserve and provides the ideal location for services, life celebrations, presentations, receptions and gatherings. We provide seating for up to 100, tables for meals, handicapped accessible restrooms, and accommodations for slideshows.

Forest ChapelThe Forest Chapel is nestled in a beautiful area of the forest, providing a unique experience for outdoor services, life celebrations, presentations, receptions, and gatherings. Accommodations for seating is up to 50 with our hand-crafted, cedar benches made locally from our sustainable forest.

Kings Mountain Retreat CenterThe Kings Mountain Retreat Center is a separate property on the grounds of The Preserve. It provides a unique opportunity for spiritual & wellness retreats, wedding groups, meetings and other events, and out of town visitors. Sleeping accommodations are up to 6 people.
